When travelling through Gansu and Qinghai Provinces in China I recognized that many people carried their shoppings in red reusable bags. To be honest, I was very surprised to find one of my first good ideas in China.
It turned out that the Chinese government used its unitary power in a useful way and banned free plastic bags.
Shopping behavior seems to adjust to it. Fancy eco-friendly bags are available not only for the younger generation in Shanghai, Beijing or on wechat, taobao etc.. Also the senior generation goes back to classics, like baskets or linen bags.
To be realistic, the Long March reducing plastic in the water just began. However, if this kind of politics creates an environmental awareness among the millions of Chinese people, it might be a good idea to be shared by other countries.
